Our Top Tips for Designing a Holistic home and lifestyle

Holistic design is a slow art. It’s about peeling back the layers of who you are, considering what has evolved, and honoring what’s now important to you. It’s about creating a space that reflects your journey and your next chapter, based on a deeper understanding of your values and aspirations.
1. Prioritise Functionality
A beautiful home also needs to be practical. Consider the flow of your space, how you use it daily, and the comfort of the people living in it. Holistic design isn’t just about looking good—it’s about feeling good too. Design with purpose, ensuring that each item and space serves you in both style and function.
2. Embrace Sustainability
Holistic design embraces sustainable practices. Think about the environmental impact of your choices: opt for eco-friendly materials, support local artisans, or choose timeless, durable pieces that won’t end up in a landfill. The longevity of items in your home is just as important as their aesthetics.
2. Get Real About Your Budget, Then Dream Big
Start by browsing your favorite online homeware stores. Add everything you think you’ll need for your lounge room to your cart. Once you have everything in place, assess the total cost and get realistic about your budget. This will help you plan effectively and set priorities.
4. Keep It Simple and Bold
Choose the right-sized items for your space. Going too small often requires filler items to balance out the room, which can lead to a lack of harmony. Big pieces make a statement and fill the space with purpose, so don’t be afraid to go bold.
5. Avoid the Trends Trap
Trends are fleeting. Sure, the Hamptons style is here to stay, but many people who embraced it did so because it wasn’t truly aligned with their aesthetic or the architecture of their homes. Right now, the 60’s and 70’s are making a huge comeback, and I’m here for it, give me that drop lounge rooms. But does it fully align with me? Not completely. I take elements I love and blend them into my own style, which is what holistic design is about: integrating what resonates with you.
6. Create Connection to Nature
Bring nature indoors with plants, natural light, and earthy textures. Studies show that having plants in your home can improve air quality and boost mood. Consider design elements that support a deeper connection to the natural world, which promotes mental and emotional well-being.
7. The psychology of colour
Colour is a powerful tool for transforming the mood of a space. When I was in fashion school, I learned to pick up color cards and feel into how they made me feel. Sometimes, the wrong tone can make you feel uneasy. So, take your time exploring what colors align with your mood and support your nervous system, joy, and overall well-being.
8. Prioritise Health & Well-being
Create a space that supports your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. This can include using non-toxic paints, materials that promote good air quality, and designing spaces that foster relaxation, mindfulness, and ease.
9. Honor Your Personal Style
Holistic design is about aligning your environment with your true self. Curate your space with items that tell your story—whether through sentimental pieces, unique finds, or elements that simply make you feel at home.
Above all.........
Embracing a Holistic life deisgn teaches us to be minimal and intentional with our journey. It asks you to take the time to feel into your choices and ask, how does this piece support my life, my health, my relationships, and ultimately my joy?
